hidden text - google

OK so everyone has in some point of time had an issue with there design and how it would work with google.

So here is a few tips just to keep in mind:

  • If you have text which is the same colour as your page properties background colour Google will see this as Hidden Text
  • Even if you have a table cell with a background colour which is different to your text i.e. black text on a white table cell background if the Page Properties background colour is black this will be seen as Hidden Text
  • Also an easy way to check how your site would be seen in Google is to disable CSS if your using CSS and that is basically what Google’s Robots will see.
  • Also to keep in mind the penalties if you are caught Google will penalize your site and slowly decrease your rank till you are in the supplemental index. This won’t happen overnight but if you are court this will happen eventually. In some rare cases Google will ban your site from their index.

I hope these little tips are useful with your designs when thinking about SEO in Google.

Hey! This comment gives me a teeny bit of promo on Google too since it has the link to my site ;)

“This comment gives me a teeny bit of promo on Google too since it has the link to my site” - no it doesn’t, it has nasty “rel=nofollow” on it. What it does give you is a chance of someone clicking it.
